The Potential of Peace

Peace is a great word with plenty of potential. However the meaning of this word; in it's highest aspects will never quite be reached.

In life you'll find that you may be able to try and find peace, but all you endure is perhaps a small portion. The world is never full of peace. It may be in one place for a while, but like a pendulum, havoc will overshadow it again.

But while this shadow is over one place in the world there will be another that came out from under that shadow. It's at this time that you have to take advantage of that period when you don't have the shadow over your life. It's these moments that you have to cherish and squeeze every bit of enjoyment out; because it's only a matter of time before that shadow comes back again.

You'll find, when you cherish those moments of peace, you seem to get a longer period from being out of under that shadow. But no one can stay happy forever and you need to have a break from peace once in a while; otherwise you wouldn't know what peace really was and take those moments of pleasure for granted.

If the truth be told it's unnatural for the whole world to live in complete peace. There have been many great leaders in the time of man, with many great ideas to make the world a peaceful place. However it seems that these great people are assassinated by people afraid of a peaceful world; an unnatural world.

But, what's wrong with an unnatural world? What's wrong with a peaceful world? No one really knows, because no one has ever truly experienced one. As long as there are assassins and people afraid of change in the world the full potential of peace will never be reached. Instead hope will exist in the world and shine it's true potential for those who want true peace.

What Do You Do When Someone Drops $20?

When someone in front of you drops a twenty dollar bill, the instant instinct of most of us is to keep it for ourselves. However, in my case I would not be able to cheat somebody out of their money. Why? Do you ask? Simply because giving the money back is the right thing to do.

That twenty dollars just might be the only money that persons has and it may be the only chance of his or her family eating that night. On the other hand, you could be rewarded. The person might be rich and give you the twenty dollars to keep for yourself, just because you made the effort to be a good Samaritan. No matter how much money a person drops; even a penny, I would still give it back to them and hopefully get some good luck at the same time.

Interview With Bill Carder Nov.27th/07

Bill Carder is known in his family as the guy who can always make you laugh. At parties, he is known to tear up the dance floor and sing like a professional on the karaoke machine. He can even do an exact impression of Donald Duck’s voice.

Over the phone his character showed as we shared many laughs. But aside from his character with the family, Bill is still a well respected geography teacher, even after his retirement.

Bill said that he was “very happy” with his career choice. “I liked the kids, and teaching, and the long break in the summer.”

“Well I guess there was mixed emotions. There were a lot of hours involved during the week. I had to plan classes and was a coach, which involved a lot of hours. But overall I was happy with my career choice.”

Coaching was also a big part of Bill’s career. He liked the team factor which brings kids together to work as one. Once Bill coached his curling team to OFSAA.

OFSAA “is the Ontario Federation School’s Athletic Association,” Bill explained. “Basically it’s where the best schools in the province meet. Being there was like being apart of the Olympics to me and my team.”

Bill did not always know he wanted to be a teacher. In fact he didn’t decide that he was going to be a teacher until his final year in University, when he had to make a final decision. “I never thought I would be teaching geography or even teaching at all for that matter,” he explained with a laugh.

“When I went to University there was a lot of options, but geography interested me the most. Geography opened up a lot of doors for me. Like one time I had the opportunity to work for the government, but I stuck with teaching.”

Bill has also had the pleasure of teaching and working with several interesting students and colleagues. One of his students became the Minister of Education in the government, while another was written into a book.

“Another became a big part of the World AIDS program,” Bill said regarding another one of his students. “My students, colleagues and everyone I worked with were interesting.”

There is no doubt that Bill loved his career as a teacher. It was a surprise to hear that he had worked in this career for thirty years. His final year of teaching was actually one of the most memorable times for him. “My colleagues threw a lot of parties for me,” Bill said.

“There was also a special assembly for the teachers retiring that year. I remember that the last month of my final year at school was pretty much all parties. I actually had to stay back into July to finish my work. But it was worth it.”

Despite these glorious thirty years Bill spent as a teacher, perhaps the most memorable part for Bill was the response and respect he got from his students and colleagues that he worked with.

All the work and effort was worth it, “because kids would always come back and say how much they appreciated what I did,” Bill said sincerely. “That’s probably the most rewarding part about being a teacher; when kids express appreciation.”

No the site that you accidentally stumbled on is a blog that belongs to the only Brent that attends Winston Churchill C.I. Now, before you leave and continue on your search for the website you really want, let me tell you what this website is really all about. You see I am in grade 11 and was told to make a blog for my media unit in English. Bear with me, because this is my first time creating a blog and my first big step into the future of saving paper on English assignments. So as a good friend of mine said "pull up an ice block and lend your eyes" and continue to read my blog. I'll be writting about several topics in the future on my journey to (hopefully) getting a good mark in English. Any comments will be appreciated and feel free to leave a topic for me to write about. That way, you'll be doing 10% of my job for me and who knows, I just might get around to blogging on the topic.
